BJP says Rahul disrespecting Lord Ram, people of UP | India News

The BJP Wednesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of nurturing hatred towards the people of Uttar Pradesh and disrespecting Lord Ram. Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra is currently in Uttar Pradesh. After a two-day break, it will resume on February 24 from Moradabad.

Union Minister Smriti Irani visited Amethi at the same time as Rahul, who lost the constituency to her in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

In Delhi, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Rahul of making statements against the people of UP. “He asked on entering UP whether any SCs, STs or OBCs were present at the Ram temple consecration. Ambani and Adani were merely observers. Rahul Gandhi should refrain from disrespecting Lord Ram,” Prasad said.

He also took umbrage at Rahul purportedly saying that he found people in Varanasi intoxicated. “Rahul Gandhi’s remark is unacceptable. Is this the appropriate language to use, especially for a region where his family has held sway and where he and his MPs hail from?”

A day earlier, Irani said about Rahul’s statement: “How much poison he has for Uttar Pradesh in his mind is revealed by this statement. He had also made objectionable remarks on UP’s voters in his constituency Wayanad in south India. He had also rejected the invite to the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. On what he has said about the punya bhoomi (holy land) of Kashi and about the youth of Uttar Pradesh, I will say that the Congress’ future is dark but UP’s future is moving towards progress.”

Festive offer

Prasad also wondered why Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders were silent on Sandeshkhali even as they were speaking about the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Chandigarh mayoral elections. “An incident occurred in Chandigarh, and the BJP respects the Supreme Court’s decision, with everyone echoing the matter. While the Opposition discusses Chandigarh’s mayoral election issue, the same people remain silent on the atrocities in Sandeshkhali, where the dignity of mothers, daughters and sisters is being violated,” he said.
