The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Thursday issued summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case for the seventh time, asking him to appear for questioning on February 26.

The central probe agency had earlier issued summons on February 14, asking him to appear on February 19 which the CM had skipped. He has not appeared for questioning in the excise policy matter on six occasions so far.

On February 3, a day after the Delhi CM skipped the agency’s fifth summons, the central agency had filed a complaint before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra against him.

Invoking sections 190 and 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the complaint was filed for not complying with summons issued by the ED under Section 50 (power to issue summons) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and for not joining the ongoing investigation in the case.

In its application, the ED had stated if Kejriwal, a high-ranking public functionary, disobeyed the law, it would set a wrong example for the common man in addition to blaming him for being “non-cooperative” in the investigation.

Festive offer

On the ED’s complaint in court, AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar had said: “The ED has already moved court against the Delhi CM and he already appeared virtually on February 17; he will appear again on March 16. The ED should also wait. Whatever decision comes in this matter, we will accept it.”
