Delhi excise policy case: Court defers hearing on Manish Sisodia’s bail plea, extends judicial custody | Delhi News

A Delhi court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia till March 12 in the money-laundering case related to the now-scrapped excise policy.

Counsel of various accused people in the case complained that a few documents provided to them via the CBI were not opening on their computers. The court therefore granted them a week’s time to go to the CBI office to view the documents. The CBI submitted a status report in a sealed cover in the court.

The court of Special Judge MK Nagpal on Wednesday deferred a hearing on the regular bail application filed by Sisodia. The court was to decide whether it can hear the regular bail petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party leader when his curative petition was pending before the Supreme Court. Awaiting the outcome of the curative petition, the trial court will hear the matter on March 2.

On February 17, the trial court reserved its orders on whether Sisodia’s bail plea will be heard by it or not given the pendency before the apex court.

The Enforcement Directorate had earlier submitted that Sisodia cannot seek the same relief before two forums. If the petition is allowed, it will be converted into a special leave petition and then there will be two bail proceedings going on simultaneously, it had further argued.

Festive offer

The former Delhi deputy chief minister is accused of extra-procedural interference in framing the excise policy, tweaking it for the benefit of select liquor entities and causing a loss of several hundred crores of rupees to the state exchequer.

Sisodia was first arrested by the CBI in February last year and then by the ED in March. In the ED chargesheet, Sisodia was named as a “key conspirator” in the case.
