Man gets death penalty for rape, murder of 3-year-old girl | Delhi News

A POCSO court in Gurgaon has sentenced a 25-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Gurgaon six years ago, said officers.

In 2018, the girl, aged three years and nine months, was playing in the neighbourhood when the then-21-year-old accused, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, took her to a deserted place when her parents had left for work, then raped her and inserted a stick into her genitals. The girl’s body was found the next day, with her face bludgeoned by bricks and genitals bleeding, said police.

The POCSO (protection of children from sexual offences) court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the accused, while directing the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family for rehabilitation. Observing that the “brutal, barbaric, and diabolic nature” of the crime was evident from the injuries on the victim’s body, the court said that “gallows await those committing such crimes”.

“…Attacking and killing her with bricks, committing violent sexual assault, and his brutish behaviour by inserting a 10-cm-long wooden stick in her vagina. These acts demonstrate the mental perversion and inconceivable brutality committed by the convict. He has betrayed the trust of a minor girl. She trusted him, being her neighbour. The convict carefully commited the barbaric acts of raping and murdering the child…,” said the court of Additional Sessions Judge Shahsi Chauhan.

The complainant’s counsel argued that the accused was a “serial killer” — a habitual offender, whose modus operandi was to lure minor girls from poor families.

Festive offer

The court noted that the accused faces several FIRs, including three in Gurgaon — “murder after sexual assault”. Though it was pleaded that it was not a “rarest of the rare case” and the accused was entitled to a lesser punishment, the court said, “taking into consideration the barbaric manner in which the deceased was raped and murdered, and the mental agony undergone by the parents, the court finds that except death sentence, no other sentence will be adequate.”
