Wrexham: Takeaway plans for old butchers given the go-ahead

An application was lodged with Wrexham Council to turn the former Stanley Jones Butchers shop on Mountain Street into a hot food and takeaway unit.

Wrexham Council’s planning officials had originally recommended the application be refused over highway concerns and the fact it is located within the proximity of two schools.

However, the council has granted the proposal subject to planning conditions. One of these is the premises not trading outside of the hours of 4pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday during the school term, and 2pm to 10pm Monday to Friday at all other times, and 11am to 10pm on weekends.

Planning documents state that there will be no seating for customers and the unit will be takeout only. A low fence is to be installed at the rear of the site at a max height of 1.8m to screen refuse/waste.

The site can accommodate approximately three car spaces, with an additional space adjacent to the unit to load and park a delivery van.

The scheme includes a mechanical ventilation system to produce hot food at the rear, this will control the ventilation within the unit and also control the spread of the smell externally.

A total of 81 letters of support for the application were sent by local residents, with one objecting over a potential increase of anti-social behaviour, parking issues and highway concerns.
